Growing Sweet Basil

Sweet basil is one of the easiest herbs to grow, ideal for both beginner gardeners and experienced cultivators.

  • Planting: Basil thrives in warm, sunny climates. Sow seeds or transplant seedlings into well-drained soil after the last frost.
  • Sunlight: Ensure the plants receive at least 6–8 hours of sunlight daily.
  • Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but avoid waterlogging.
  • Pruning: Regularly trim the plant’s tips to encourage bushy growth and prevent flowering, which reduces leaf production.
  • Harvesting: Begin harvesting leaves when the plant reaches a height of 15–20 cm. Frequent harvesting promotes continued growth.

Sweet basil is not only a garden favorite but also a flavorful addition to any dish, making it an essential herb for both home cooks and professional chefs alike.
