Growing Blauehilde Beans

Blauehilde beans are easy to grow and adapt well to different climates. Here are some tips to help you grow them successfully:

  • Planting: Sow seeds directly in well-drained soil as spring arrives. Plant seeds about 2.5 cm deep, spaced 20–30 cm apart. This bean prefers warm weather, so ensure the soil is sufficiently warm before planting.
  • Support: As a climbing bean, Blauehilde needs staking or a trellis for support.
  • Sunlight: Thrives in full sunlight but can also tolerate partial shade, especially in warmer climates.
  • Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist but avoid overwatering.
  • Harvest: Blauehilde beans are ready for harvest approximately 60–70 days after planting. Regular harvesting of young pods encourages more production.
  • Soil Improvement: Like other legumes, Blauehilde beans contribute to soil health by fixing nitrogen.
