How to Grow Tatume Squash:

Tatume squash grows quickly and is particularly resilient, making it suitable for all levels of gardening experience.

  • Planting: After winter ends and the soil warms up, sow Tatume seeds directly into your garden. Space the seeds 60-80 cm apart to allow for sufficient spread. A sunny, well-drained location will encourage strong growth.
  • Watering and Soil: Tatume thrives with consistent watering, especially during flowering and fruit setting stages, though it can handle dry spells once established. Keep the soil moist but avoid waterlogging.
  • Growth and Maintenance: Tatume is a fast grower, with vines that spread to cover the ground, naturally suppressing weeds. This squash is highly durable, handling pests and diseases better than most varieties. However, it’s recommended to keep an eye out for pests and use organic pest control methods if necessary.
  • Harvesting: In as little as 45-55 days, your first harvest will be ready. Pick the fruits when they’re young and tender for a zucchini-like texture, or let them mature for a denser texture, ideal for winter soups. Frequent harvesting encourages continuous fruiting and extends the growing season, ensuring a steady supply of fresh Tatume.
