Dryland watermelon race. ‘Malali’ watermelon was known as the best watermelon in the Israeli market, and was the most common variety in Israel during the 1950’s, replacing the local “Baladi” varieties. It is known that the Malali watermelon was chosen in a commercial farming area of “Kfar Malal”, by Mordechai Silberg and Baruch Burstein in 1940. The watermelon was formed as a result of accidental cross pollination between the local variety ׳Mahasni׳ and 'Chilean Black' watermelon.
